Good morning, Maggie here... In a couple of weeks, Sweet Cheeks won't be a baby anymore. He'll be a "one year old". He'll be a "toddler". Please no... make it stop. While I'm beyond excited to get to that stage where he is walking and talking and giving unsolicited kisses... I'm not ready for my baby to be gone. How many mamas ever are? I'd guess none of us really. So for now and for as long as he'll let me, I'm going to rock him to sleep, nurse him when he rubs his nose (that's his signal), and refer to his age in months.

Here he is at 11 months, sitting calmly in a bucket full of soap and water. Thank you sweet baby, for putting up with Mama's requests.

hometown series :: town hall summer concerts

Well... it's officially summer. And let's hope so, because it's almost 100 degrees out there! The last time it was this hot, we were shooting an outdoor, 14 hour wedding... and one of us was 8 months pregnant. Yikes! Today though, we are enjoying the humming sound of our overworked AC unit and the cool air it's spoiling us with. Ahhhh, very nice.

With summer, in our small town, comes many fun activities, events, and gatherings. One of our favorites is the La Plata Summer Concert Series on the lawn at Town Hall. It's like something out of feel good movie, or an episode of The Wonder Years. Seriously, this summertime staple in our neck of the woods makes us love where we live more and more. Families lay out quilts on the lawn, marking their spot, then set up dinners of fried chicken, subs, or even a pizza. You are sure to run into someone you know, but on most evenings you're bound to see several familiar faces. "How've ya'll been?" is heard quite a lot on these evenings. In fact, most folks have started to show up an hour or so early just to have the time to chat, before the music starts. Every Friday evening from June to September the Town of La Plata puts on a free concert for anyone to come enjoy. Bands range from southern rock, to traditional Irish tunes and even the US Air Force Band.

A 45 minute drive from the District, we find ourselves in a little bubble on these Friday evenings, where life slows down, we enjoy good music, a warm breeze and time with people we love.

We will be out there on the lawn tomorrow evening. If you're in the area or close enough to drive down our way, come on out and say hi. We'd love to share some blanket with you.

sweet cheeks :: bloopers

Hi everyone! It's Maggie here. I thought today I would introduce you formally to my little one. He'll be all over this blog and I figure now is a great time to tell you a little more about him.

"Sweet Cheeks" has become his name, and I'm pretty sure Mom started calling him that. He does in fact have some very sweet cheeks. He's a 9 month old squishy, kissable little boy who talks a lot and never sits still.

Anyway, before he was born I knew I wanted to do something special. I decided I was going to take one photo of him every single day of his first year of life. Yep, I set up the same little spot, every day, and take the same photo of him... every day. To be clear, I literally do this every, single, day. It's challenging, but I'm glad to be doing it. With just 3 months left to go I look forward to when I don't have to remember to work our little photo session into our days, but it's going to be difficult to stop doing it. Who knows... maybe we'll do this for 18 years. (help me)

Now that he's moving, and very interested in my cameras, our attempts to get one good shot a day has turned into a drawn out event. He lunges forward as soon as I get him to sit still, and makes every effort to get to my camera. We eventually get what we need, but not before getting some pretty funny blooper photos. Here are some of my favorites.

While I was happy he decided to sit still for 5 seconds, it would have been nice to not get such annoyed looks from this kid. Jeez, sorry buddy.
